Let's beat the heat at a higher altitude! The trail is at around 10,000 ft elevation and just under two miles, but this trail doesn't have much elevation gain while hiking.

There is a bus stop right at the trailhead too! The drive to this destination is almost as beautiful as the hike, only 15 miles from Santa Fe, you'll travel up the winding road through aspen and pine, mountain forest.

The trail length is approximately 3 miles with moderate difficulty. The rock scramble area and mesa edge may be difficult to navigate for some as there is no defined path and is narrow.

Let's take a hike!

This trail is 1.4 miles and relatively easy. We'll begin with a paved path past various archeological sites. Midway on the trail there is a section to ascend stairs and optional ladders to explore carved alcoves (this section can be bipassed if necessary). We'll finish with a stroll through trees and if we're lucky spot Abert's squirrels with tufted ears.

Normally, there is an entrance fee ($25) but this day is a free day in honor of National Park Week (expect some additional visitors and plan extra time for parking).
