MT VAN HOEVENBERG: THE FACTS:
Distance: 3.6 miles round trip
Elevation: 2,860 feet
Elevation gain: 1,000 feet
Hikers begin a gentle climb to one of the finest views of the High Peaks after signing in. Switchbacks are used throughout the trail so that the climb is never very steep as it meanders through the woods. Thanks to sustainable design, hard work, and trail maintenance, it's easy to spend time concentrating on the journey and not worrying about tripping over roots. In the spring, you'll see tons of bright wildflowers. The hardened trail is easy on the knees, with the grade never exceeding 12%.

If we are lucky, when we reach the summit, we will be able to see New York City in the distance.
The descent down the other side of the mountain is much more gradual. Near the bottom, the trail passes through the old Cornish Estate, originally built in the early 1900s and destroyed by a fire in 1956. The estate included a large mansion, greenhouse, stables, garage and more. There is so much to explore and a nice reward at the end of the hike after climbing all the way to the top of the mountain.
